These famous air fresheners and wall plug-ins are used by almost 75% of American families. And they usually contain phthalates, a potentially dangerous chemical, which is banned from cosmetic products in the United Kingdom. Fourteen different air sprays, including those labeled “all-natural” and “unscented” were tested by The National Resources Defense Council. The researchers found that 12 of the 14 tested were positive for the dangerous chemical – phthalates.
Another study has found that the frequently burning paraffin of scented wax candles, in poorly ventilated rooms could be dangerous. The study has shown that this could be dangerous because when burned, the scented candles give off toluene and benzene, potential carcinogens. The reed diffusers are usually made with dipropylene glycol, and ingredient also used in antifreeze. This ingredient is also dangerous to cats and dogs, or ethanol, and also poses a gander to small children if they ingest the liquid or get it in their eyes.

Open a window and catch the breeze

Boil cinnamon

Make herb sachets

When you fill these small cotton bags, you need to place them in drawers to make your clothes smell good. This method is more effective and much better, than buying artificially scented drawer scent diffusers.
Other things to make yourself
You can also make your own reed diffuser oil and candles at home, but you need to go out in the local supermarket and get some new ingredients. If you want to make reed diffuser oil, add a few drops of your favorite scent of essential oil to carrier oil, like almond oil, and then put it in a narrow-necked glass bottle with reeds. Just be careful and don’t let the essential oil to touch your bare skin. You should also make sure to keep it out of reach of small children and pets.
